Jerome, AZ

We are open!

Come join us on Saturday, June 5th, 2021, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., at the Old Jerome High School, for a special evening of art and music. Check out the list of exceptionally talented artists who are participating, and stop by their studios to support local art.

Special Guests:  Live music by The Sir Mighty from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Robin Anderson in Building C:  With over 45 years of expertise, Robin’s two floors worth of studio space includes paintings, sculptures, pressed-prints, in a wide variety of sizes and genres.

Christie Helm will be showing her paintings, light pieces, prints and drawings, which are portals imparting light, joy and healing to the viewer, as they spend time with each piece. She will be open with new work for sale, raffle drawing and wine tastings. You can find Christie in studio A-304.

Dave Meek is a professional artist and maker working in illustration, graphic design, models and miniatures. He also runs a YouTube channel with model building how-to's, and a monthly podcast featuring guests from the world of Disney Imagineering. His Jerome studio is home to the fabulous Thunder Mesa Mining Company model railroad. Look for Dave in studio A-201.

Scott Rispin, MFA from Edinboro University in PA, taught art classes at Penn State Erie for 12 years. Currently, he is teaching at Yavapai College and Embry-Riddle University in Prescott. Paintings are generally termed “Abstract Landscapes,” they drift between subtle and extreme abstractions, and feature aggressive texture and color. You can find Scott in studio C-204 (upstairs).

Dani Vorves, of Datura Yoga and Wellness Studio, will be offering chair massage and non-alcoholic beverages, herbal remedies, minerals and crystals for sale. You can find Dani in studio A-305.

John and Lauri Maeder, of Desert Lace Studio, have discovered a way to remove the intricate and beautiful fiber from within the pads of the prickly pear cactus. Rolling the fiber against copper and sterling silver, they emboss the cactus pattern into the metal to make unique jewelry. The rolling process crushes the fiber, so no two pieces are alike. They also use the skin of the cactus along with the fiber and produce hats, furniture, wall art, sculpture, lighting, kaleidoscopes and more. Check out all they have to offer at their studio in Building C (main floor).

Contemporary artist, Beth Courtright Detwiler, has new work available at the Word is Art Studio. Stop in to see a large and colorful selection of her signature Little Birdies and Cracked Eggsin studio A-301.

Red Bench Photo Studio, featuring Kay Daniels Photography, where she will be photographing a model live. Kay is offering candid photos to those who would like their photos taken. The photo studio is set up in studio A-306.

Artist, Zushka Biros, will have her original paintings on display in Building A and/or outside. Check out her abstracts in acrylic, unframed and ready for sale.

The Old Jerome High School is located at 885 Hampshire Avenue, and includes buildings A and C, Jerome, AZ  86331. There’s plenty of free parking. See you on campus!

Featured Artist of the Month:  Damian Gomes

Picture
Welcome to one of our newest artists in Building A, Damian Gomes. Visit him during his first Open Studio Art Show in Jerome on Saturday, March 7th, between 4:30 - 9:00 p.m., upstairs in Studio 302.

Damian Gomes is a self-taught abstract figurative painter working primarily in oil and acrylic.

With references to surrealism, Gomes' wildly gestural neo-expressionist forms explore themes of life and death, socio-cultural phenomena, and other existential questions.

Frequently macabre, sensual, and darkly comic human images figure prominently into Gomes' work.

The journey from the sublime to the absurd is populated by religious and profane characters, and rendered in an introspective, self-effacing style.

"What the completed painting says is sometimes the answer to a question I hadn't yet asked. "

Gomes lives and works in Jerome.

Damian's artwork is currently for sale, with a wide-range to choose from. Check out this artist's variety of work, and support local art.

Meet Christie Helm
Building A, upstairs Studio 304

Picture
Christie is also new to the Old Jerome High School Art Center, but not new to the art scene.

For the past decade Helm's paintings have dealt with rhythmic repetitions of vertical linear motifs. Coinciding with her moving to Brazil in 2012, Helm's work began to change decisively. A new, strict ordering emerged, along with a refined sense of color. Stripes of white and one or two colors seem to grow in expanding steps, only to be interrupted by wider bands and the initiation of a new sequence. There is an inherent musicality in these compositions, a sense of stricture and release, anticipation and fulfillment. This sense of ongoing possibility reached a culmination in Ode to Cadere.

Meet Christie during the Art Walk and check out her vibrant artwork. And don't forget to walk around campus to meet all of our artists.

Dylan Jung will be hosting a Coffee Tasting & Movie Night
Building A, Upstairs Studio 300

Picture
Coffee lovers, don't miss this! Verde Forge Coffee Co. is booming. Come up to Jerome and meet the mastermind behind it all. While you're there, stick around for Movie Night in the studio.

Verde Forge Coffee Co. is a small and humble specialty coffee company based in Jerome, AZ. Founded by seasoned coffee professional Dylan Jung, his goal is simply to provide “Good coffee for good people doing good things.”

Dylan has worked in cafes for the last 15 years, and served many regulars their coffees, lattes, espressos and teas. It has been a long-time dream of his to start his own business in the coffee industry. Once he encountered the craft of roasting coffee, he knew he couldn’t turn back. Verde Forge is the company he hopes will provide many a tasty cup of coffee to communities of people for a long time to come.

John & Lauri Maeder, of Desert Lace Studio, Offering
Free Tours during Art Walk. Building C, Studio 100

Picture
‘Husband and wife artists, John & Lauri Maeder, have discovered a method of removing the fiber from within the pads of the iconic prickly-pear cactus in all of its intricate and beautiful detail. They roll the fiber against copper and sterling silver embossing the unique pattern into the surface of the metal. When the fiber is rolled, it is crushed and falls apart, ensuring that no two pieces of their jewelry are alike, each piece is unique. Using the fiber and the skin of the cactus, they also make hats, wall art panels, sculptures, lighting, furniture, kaleidoscopes, and more. They are the only artists in the world utilizing cactus in this manner.’
