August Featured Artist of the Month: Beth Courtright-Detwiler"Art is my charter on the way to knowing and being known. I like using primary and secondary colors, with contrasting black and white, because it reminds me of childhood." - Beth Courtright-Detwiler Beth's painting style is heavily influenced by "symbolist" and "abstract-figurative" artists of the early to mid 20th Century Moderns. She also has a great deal of interest in the iconic and intriquing images of ancient civilizations, particularly the cultures of the Ancient Near East. Beth likes naive art, outsider art and urban street art genres because of their authenticity in expression. Her studio will be hosting an ART POP-UP event at the Jerome Art Center on Saturday, August 4th. This free public arts event is open to visitors of all ages and will be held during the day, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., and again during the evening's Open Studio Jerome Art Walk tour, 5 - 8 p.m. You can find Beth in Building A, Studio 301. Art Show & Music Hosted by Red Bench™ GalleryThe party starts at 5 p.m. with Red Bench™ Gallery's August Artist, Mr. Babies, and concert by DJ Dexx. This is the artist's debut show, and his first public appearance ever. Mr. Babies' "Psychedelic Analog Collage Art" will be on display with selected limited editions available for purchase in Building A, at the end of the hallway on the bottom floor. DJ Dexx will be performing outside at the back of the buildings on the old tennis court. Join the dance party and enjoy the light-show till 10 p.m. HOW TO GET HERE: When driving up the mountain on 89A, the Jerome Art Center is the first set of buildings on the lefthand side of the road. There is a driveway between the first 2 buildings - take that and go around to the back parking lot. The DJ will be performing outside to the right of the parking lot. Nearest building is: 887 Hampshire Avenue, Jerome AZ 86331. Parking is limited, car-pooling is suggested. You can also take advantage of the free shuttle service and park at the top parking lot behind the fire station (see map below.) Collaborative Community Art Event with Karon LeighKaron Leigh invites families with children ten and under to participate in a free collaborative painting process, working together to create a mural-sized painting celebrating life in the Verde Valley from 10am – 1pm in studio 201 of building A. When children engage in hands-on art activities, they learn much better in all disciplines. Collaborative art projects connect children with a shared language that crosses other cultural boundaries. The finished work will be on display during Art Walk, 5-8pm. Free Shuttle ServiceThe FREE Shuttle Service picks up and drops off at the Jerome Art Center parking lot. Enjoy First Saturday Art Walk by visiting our artists, then take the Shuttle up the hill. We are the first building(s) on the lefthand side of 89A as you enter Jerome from Clarkdale/Cottonwood.
